Group biography

The Sillars Light Orchestra,founded in 1926, sets out to entertain and meet fund raising concert requests. It does not receive any help or support from sponsors or trusts; remaining a completely independent and self supporting ensemble of around 35 amateur musicians of mixed age and gender. The Orchestra is based in the fine city of Norwich, Norfolk - a County with strong musical traditions. Its continuing aim is to provide a platform for its members to enjoy music making of the lighter ‘easy listening’ variety and to encourage all like minded musicians to share in the unique experience of playing its chosen style. The Sillars Light Orchestra is seeking to expand some of it sections, particularly violins and brass. It does not compete and therefore does not conduct formal auditions, finding it better for all concerned to allow newcomers to settle in - the best way of establishing a player's true worth.
