Group biography

Under the leadership of Chief Conductor Gianandrea Noseda, the BBC Philharmonic performs a series of 20 concerts at The Bridgewater Hall, at many venues in the North of England and at least five BBC Proms annually, as well as producing recordings for BBC Radio 3 and Chandos Records (over 150 CDs to date).

In recent decades the Orchestra has worked closely with some of the most important composers of our time including Maxwell Davies, Birtwistle, MacMillan, Berio and H K Gruber. It has a very busy Learning and Outreach department working with thousands of people each year.

Orchestra recently announced a major new partnership with Salford City Council in the run up to 2011 when the BBC Philharmonic’s new home will be at Media City at Salford Quays.
